I strongly object to the proposed development of 205 homes on the STC Sports Ground in New Eltham (SE9). This site is a vital part of our community’s green infrastructure and plays a crucial role in supporting local biodiversity. Its destruction would be a devastating loss for wildlife that depend on this open space as a habitat and nature corridor.
The impact on local services cannot be ignored. Our schools, healthcare facilities, and public transport are already under pressure. Adding hundreds of new residents will only increase the strain on these essential amenities, to the detriment of existing residents.
Moreover, the proposed development would significantly increase traffic in the area, leading to more congestion, noise, and air pollution. This will degrade the quality of life for all who live nearby and poses risks to public health and safety.
Crucially, allowing this development sets a dangerous precedent. If protected Metropolitan Open Land can be reclassified for housing, it opens the door to further erosion of our precious green spaces. We must protect these areas for future generations.
This proposal is not a sustainable or appropriate solution to the housing crisis. I urge you to reject it and seek alternatives that do not sacrifice our green heritage.
