I object to the proposed development of 205 homes on the STC Sports Ground in Eltham on several critical grounds, beginning with the loss of a vital community green space. The STC Sports Ground is not just a patch of land — it’s an essential local amenity that supports recreation, sports, and the physical well-being of residents. In an increasingly urbanised area, access to open green space is fundamental to community health, particularly for young people and families who rely on it for outdoor activity.
The proposed development would place significant pressure on already strained local infrastructure. Roads, public transport, schools, and healthcare services in Eltham are operating at or near capacity. Introducing hundreds of new residents would further overload these systems, leading to increased traffic, longer GP waiting times, school place shortages, and greater congestion. This raises real concerns about pedestrian safety, especially for children and elderly residents.
Moreover, this development would directly contradict the sustainability commitments often promoted by local councils. Many councils have pledged to protect green space, increase biodiversity, and reduce emissions. Approving this plan would undermine those goals and send the wrong message about the value of environmental responsibility.
For these reasons, I strongly urge the council to reject this proposal and preserve the STC Sports Ground for current and future generations.
