OBJECTION FROM Steven J. (SE9 2EJ)

STC SPORTS CLUB, ELTHAM  - SIGMA STRATEGIC

I am writing to formally object to the proposed development of 205 new homes at the site of the STC Sports Ground. As a resident of New Eltham, I have significant concerns regarding the impact this development would have on our community.

1. Strain on Local Infrastructure

The addition of 205 homes will inevitably increase the local population, placing further pressure on already overstretched services:
• Healthcare: Local GP surgeries are currently operating at full capacity, with patients experiencing long waiting times for appointments. An influx of new residents would exacerbate this issue, potentially compromising the quality of care.
• Education: Schools in the area are oversubscribed, and additional families would intensify the demand for school places, potentially affecting educational standards and accessibility.
• Water Supply: The existing Thames Water infrastructure may not be equipped to handle the increased demand, risking supply issues or the need for costly upgrades. We already experience frequent burst pipes and other disruptions in the area. Adding 205 extra homes to the network would likely be disastrous for all local residents.

2. Increased Traffic and Road Safety Concerns

The development is likely to lead to a significant rise in vehicular traffic:
• Congestion: Local roads already experience congestion during peak hours. Additional vehicles from the new development would worsen traffic flow, leading to longer commute times and increased frustration among residents.
• Safety: Higher traffic volumes raise concerns about road safety, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists. The risk of accidents could increase, especially near schools and residential areas.

3. Inadequate Public Transport Capacity

Public transport services are currently limited, and the proposed development does not appear to include plans to enhance these services. Without improvements, residents may become more reliant on private vehicles, further contributing to traffic congestion and environmental pollution.

4. Environmental Impact

The construction and occupation of 205 homes will have environmental implications:
• Air Quality: Increased vehicle emissions could deteriorate air quality, posing health risks to residents, particularly children and the elderly.
• Noise Pollution: Construction activities and increased traffic may lead to higher noise levels, affecting the well-being of the community.

Conclusion

While I understand the need for housing development, it is essential that such projects are sustainable and considerate of existing community resources and infrastructure. I urge the planning authority and local councillors to reconsider this application in light of the concerns outlined above.

Thank you for considering my objection.

Kind regards,
Steven J.
